Well, it really was that easy - and fast - to get started with Hugo and the theme (this theme) recommended in the quick start tutorial is very nice indeed and will suffice now that I’ve made a few minor tweaks.
Definitely will migrate all (relevant) posts from my old Jekell-created blog soon.
What I did
- I changed the photo and tweaked the
site-header.html partial layout to give the photo a title and a slightly less gloomy background “mask”. The overloading template goes in
./layouts/partials/site-header.html. It overloads
By the way
- You have to know where to put files and what to call them as Hugo has a rigid opinion on where to look for files and in what order one overloads another. It’s straightforward enough once you sus it but until you’ve watched each of Mike’s (Giraffe Academy) tutorials, Hugo’s documentation pages don’t make as much sense as they might because they are all technically descriptive but not task-oriented so you have to understand Hugo’s conceptual model before you can do a simple task like adding a single “About” page or restyling an element.
